Except I took the wrong subway getting there... but I was amazing at transfering to the right one. There was this awesome tunnel over to my transfer. Vendors and commuters and tourists all mingling. There was a stretch of the tunnel with prophetic signs indicating Christ's comming and impending wrath. If I hadn't been nervous about getting to the box office I totally would have photographed for a while. I've loved the subway, the smells, the sounds, the rumble that shakes your entire body as the trains are come. I love transfering and problem solving and emerging into the cold and snow into the busy streets. I love the graphitti and the dirt, even though I never feel clean here.
We visited the Museum of Modern Art where all of my friends live: Mondrian, Klimt, Picasso, Manet, Monet, Kandinsky, Rodin, Irving Penn, De Chirico, Magritte, Van Gough, Dali, Boccioni.... It was overwhelming. We all are "museum-ed out." I found myself hustling through exhibits and not reading captions except for the peices I really love. Definately a place that I'd visit on a regular basis if I lived here. Which is begining to look a little more attractive. After the MoMA we went to this terrible lecture at the Apple Store in SoHO. The guy was, according to the class, a "tool." Mr. Bigshot put me to sleep a few times and made most of the audience mad. He did have some good information though and it was a really cool Apple Store--HUGE.
After the lecture we ate in Little Italy. Walking through the streets was very romantic with the snow falling through the draped christmas lights and fire escapes: this was the New York from the movies. The restaurant we picked had a grumpy maitre 'd, a charming doorman, a shy busboy, and an elderly black man in a tux who sang standards for us while we waited for our meal. He began with "Unforgettable" and ended with "Fly Me to the Moon" and charmed me to no end. I'm a sucker for bowties. Jason and I shared gnocci, little pasta stuffed with potato and covered in sweet tomato sauce, it was amazing. Then we went to a fancy place for dessert and had gelato. I don't know why I love ordering from people with accents, but I do.
