It was encouraging in many ways. Her work is centered around the concept of following the parts of images that interest her most—dissecting the textures and moods of place and time, finding a desert of peace inside herself. I’m not sure I said this even close as to as well as she described it.
Hearing her speak about creating works that interest her reinforces the journey I’m about to take in my own work. In addition, she uses gouache, an opaque watercolor that has some of the qualities of oils without being so toxic to the lungs or so messy. Now that I don’t have access to a studio like I did before I graduated I am excited to explore gouache in my little apartment. She was warm, helpful, colorful, and engaging.
