Last night we saw “Beautiful View” at the Public Theater. It was a two woman show with minimal props and beautiful light and sound. Though the story was specific to a relationship between two women in a unique relationship, I felt that the story had a universal appeal that came from its simplicity. The characters were very funny, arguing with one another, intimate little jibes. They knew each other so well. The play danced around many issues about love, commitment, fear, and labels. Afterward the company talked to us for a while which gave us insight to how such a beautiful piece is conceived and performed.
Earlier yesterday we had a lecture on light by Bobbi Lane, a commercial photographer. She was very lively and very helpful, though her work was a little less daring than we’re used to seeing now. It has been really interesting to hear how artists work in this huge city.
