Studying for finals and dreaming of study away....
It's the Sunday before finals week and I'm sitting at my computer, bundled in sweat pants and slippers, and listening to George Winston's December--pretty, sleepy, piano music. I'm not terribly worried about my tests this week, but I'm a bit worried that I'm not more worried... It's all just one more hurdle before I get to leave the dreary, damp North West winter and fly to the other side of the world, where it's nice and warm. By searching the web for weather info, I see that Cape Town is experiencing some pleasant weather: highs in the upper 70s, lows near 60--and that sounds real nice right about now...
It's been 2 and a half years since I last Studied Away. I spent 5 and a half months in Sydney, Australia and I have never been the same since--for the better of course! But as I think ahead to this new adventure I can't help but wonder how this will change me--it's too late to change majors again, but who knows what else might happen?
To those reading at home, I'll keep you updating on what I see and learn, and what changes I might notice (existential growing pains, if you will)! Wish me luck!
We're the same
I see by the weather link you set up that we have about the same temperature today. You are at 23 degrees and we are at 21 degrees - Oh! yeah but you're CENTIGRADE and we're FERINHEIT! brrrrrrrrr! Enjoy!

You've arrived
By checking the NWA/KLM web site I see you have actually landed in Capetown! Incredibly tired, I imagine. Now your great adventure can begin. We are following along on the itinerary and googling here and there to find out what things are - such as a braai - which is dinner tomorrow night.
You are in our minds, hearts and prayers.

Bon Voyage!
Happy Flight, Morgan: Have a great time with your classmates and just let it all wash over you. Sometime ago when I was your age, your Mom and I travelled to Europe and after a week I felt just like I did when I was a child. Just seeing and experiencing new things and being me. Not the person I was trying to be as a young adult, nor having to achieve anything at all. It's a great feeling. If that happens just enjoy every minute of it! Love, Dad
Here's the wish
Dear Morgan:
You and your trip are constanly on my mind. You leave tomorrow! Unbelievable! It is killing me not to be there at Sea-Tac to wave good-bye. Carol did the South Africa session with youth group last night which made your travels all that more real. We ate fish cakes and a fried bread that are typical foods in South Africa and Lesoeto where she spent most of her time and saw her slides and photos from her Peace Corps days 25 years ago and her trip in 2001. I will be constantly checking your blog to read up on your adventures. Carol was very excited to hear that on Saturday you will be seeing the penguins at the Boulders penguin colony at Cape Point. Take copious amounts of photos!
Safe travels, Son. We love you!
Mom
we can't wait to hear how your trip is going...
sounds exciting and interesting and life-changing. try and write notes and chronicle your experience- you can always type later, but don't forget the details of experience when it might be overshadowed by the next one. - Sandy from USGS and Rainier View church.
